Terrible Twos

My son isn't even two yet and I'm already experiencing terrible two behaviors. Reason why I say this is because now his attitude for everything is whinning, yelling and crying whenever he wants something to go his way.

According to wikipedia:

terrible twos phrase of terrible 1. informal a period in a child's early social development (typically around the age of two years) that is associated with defiant or unruly behavior.

Yes, yes and yes. This is exactly what my day to day is with my toddler. He isn't receptive to anything I have to say or implement in his growing development. As of right now, it is what Johan says/wants or the Highway.

Parenting gets a little complicated during this time because parenting while dealing with terrible twos and juggling everything else in the world is a very tedious process. I for instance sometimes don't know what to do. I find myself giving my son more fruit snacks to calm him down and to stop whinning more than anything else. Of course that is absolutely wrong I know. But sometimes it is the easiest thing to do especially because this is a phase all kids go through or atleast most.

Us as parents need to realize that during this process, our kids need 150% of our time invested in them so that they can overcome this stage. Patience, communication and understanding is key. When kids are in this stage they are curious, courageous and just want to test all the patience you have to give. They don't really know what they're doing. Although they do know how to act when they need to persaude you that giving them fruit snacks is the right thing to do at the moment. 🙄

But this is a very common, natural phase for any toddler to go through and any parent to experience. I for one need to take my own advice and have more patience and take more time out of the day to understand why my son is requiring so much attention.

I can tell my son "I love him", and he would reply  whining at any gesture of affection I demonstrate towards him. I can tell him to do a certain task and he would cry. He simply just wants to do things his way. Atleast I can say he is at an appropriate age because if he were any older I would probably have shown him a lesson or two about doing what I ask of him. 😁

Who am I kidding , parenting is the hardest task in the world because you're in charge of developing, raising, providing for and being an emotional support system for a person who might not ever appreicate it in the long run. I hope my son appreciates everything we do for him. Especially because everything we are doing now, is just in preparation for his future.

My advise to new mothers experiencing this stage, buy a lot of fruit snacks, be very patient and understanding, and most importantly be AVAILABLE. A child wants to always have his parents there for emotional and moral support. At two years old, they definitely know what that means.
